Father's Day 2008

We celebrated Father's Day this year by going to church and then out to lunch at Abuelo's. We got a couple of snapshots at the table while waiting for the food.

Then we walked outside and took some more at the "big fountain".

Then we went to Ben and Jerry's and enjoyed some ice cream. Jacob enjoyed his ice cream running down his arm and all over his face!

The following day was our 7 year anniversary. Jacob went to play with his friend Jackson while Jeff and I went to dinner. It was a nice grown up evening and a fabulous meal! This year's gift was to be copper - we got a new car. We figure there is copper wiring somewhere in there!

No more curls!

So, after much agonizing, Jeff and I decided it was time to cut off Jacob's curly locks. They were pretty adorable as well as unruly. Jacob was very proud of his curly hair, but it was just too hot for summer - and since he's almost 4, we thought it was time for a "big boy" haircut. I wonder if he'll ever wear the curls again when he gets older. He got a LOT of compliments on them!




As much as I complained about those unruly curls, my eyes teared up a bit when they were falling onto the floor. But, he's even more handsome now! What a cutie - if I do say so myself!

After Jacob's bath one night, he was supposed to run in and grab his pj's ~ but instead came to see us like this:

The rest of May

I've gotten so far behind in my blogging that I am just going to post the rest of May's pictures here. I am trying to catch up so I can get Father's Day, Jacob's 4th birthday, and his crazy dancing pictures from a wedding we went to posted. So, here are some random photos from May - we are doing lots of swimming this summer!

Jacob was swimming in our back yard pool and said - Mommy, this pool needs a slide. I said - well, this pool doesn't have a slide... He said - what about that slide? and pointed to his playscape. Hmm - so, Daddy brought his playscape over to the pool, and it was the perfect waterslide!!!

Jacob has a new sticker chart that helps remind him of his chores - when he gets enough stickers each week, he gets a prize. One week, his prize was Camping Woody from Toy Story - he spent a few days unable to separate himself from his new toy!

Jacob has started to enjoy helping in the kitchen - he is getting good!

Here is Jacob's last day of baseball practice. He finally got to hit the ball and run around the bases!

We spend at least a couple of hours each weekend at the public pool. We love relaxing in the pool, and Jacob is really learning to swim. He especially likes swimming with a "noodle" and jumping in from the side of the pool and holding his breath. But, his favorite is the water slide!

My Mom and Dad were able to come for a visit for Memorial Day since my dad had a day off. We did lots of dining out! We got a couple of photos too, the last one is courtesy of Jacob!

I am really going to be trying to get caught up on photos so that we aren't over a month behind anymore!!!

First visit to the dentist!

Since Jacob is almost 4, we decided it was about time to take him to the dentist! We weren't sure how he would handle someone looking in his mouth, but he actually did pretty well. It was a "happy visit", so it was just to get him used to sitting in the chair and letting someone count his teeth. She actually got to clean one tooth before he said - that's enough!

He really wasn't too sure about it at first...

Then he finally opened his mouth...

Then when she let him make the chair go up and down, it became fun!

Then the dentist came in and said his teeth look great -

We were pretty proud of him for sitting still and doing everything they asked him to do. Then he got stickers and toys for doing such a good job. He's such a big boy!!!

April, Cesar, and Noah came to visit

Our good friends came for a visit from San Antonio and we had a really fun weekend with them. First we went to the park for a while and the boys enjoyed swinging.

Then we all went bowling - it was Jacob's first time to bowl!

After all of the festivities, we went to a nice dinner and then walked around the fountain at University.

Jacob really loves getting to spend time with his friends!

Downtown

Our good friends Kristy and Missy are in the beginning stages of opening a business downtown. It is going to be an art gallery with a cafe open for breakfast and lunch. They will also host events in the space for the local arts and music. One Friday night the whole gang went to dinner downtown and checked out their new space. Here are the kids' reactions to the new business:

Jacob really had a lot of fun with soccer this year. He still doesn't totally focus on practice, and gets easily distracted by the grass that's growing and rocks that he can throw. But, he really enjoyed the running drills and passing the ball back and forth - he especially likes to always stop the ball with his foot. He did a lot better this year than last - last year, he spent a good portion of the time sitting on the field refusing to play. It's amazing what 6 months of maturing can do. Our goal is to introduce him to lots of different things to see what he likes and has a passion for. I wouldn't say he's passionate about soccer, but he's learning about practice and being part of a team. Great skills for life!
